The Dreams of the Dragon Kings
Gognomar is a city of mountain dwarves, carved into the caverns under the Nomare mountain at the western edge of the Totherenn Mountains. Of the Dwarven settlements in this region, Gognomar is the most isolated, set further from the human settlements than from any of the other prolific races. Between Gognomar and the edge of Icadea are a hundred miles of mountains and many goblin settlements, but mountain dwarves know their lands well, and trade routes have been established both over and under the mountains that only sometimes catch the eye of monsters and dragons that roam the peaks.
The city itself is like a grand machine, built in amber stone and brass and gold, shimmering in a haze of steam and smoke from the forges and smelting furnaces. The dwarves of Gognomar mine stone, iron and copper for the most part, though veins of more precious metals and formations of precious gemstones are uncovered from time to time. The city is wealthy and proud, but the air there is thick and hard to breathe for those not accustomed to the dust.
